Art Basel Paris positions the French capital as an epicenter of art

Art Basel Paris, which took place from 18 to 20 October at the Grand Palais, brought together 195 galleries from 42 countries, attracting over 65,000 visitors. Known as one of the most relevant fairs reuniting modern and contemporary art shows and fairs, the event offers a comprehensive look at art through a blend of established artists and emerging talents.

The public program, with Miu Miu as its official partner, featured exhibits throughout Paris’s historic sites, with some of the events open to everyone.

Premise, the new sector created for the Paris version, featured nine galleries, each presenting innovative, thematic exhibitions. This platform offered a more focused narrative, with each booth carefully curated to push boundaries and explore artistic expressions. On the other hand, the Emergence section placed significant emphasis on emerging artists and galleries, spotlighting 16 exhibitors who showcased the future of the Art industry and reinforced the fair’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of creative talent.

Galleries stood out for their innovative approach, such as Pace Gallery, in which the exploration of the figure of the witch was creative and different from the other booths. Curated by artist Paulina Olowska, the theme was brought to life through Olowska’s own works alongside those of Louise Nevelson, Kiki Smith, and Lucas Samaras.

A staple in the industry, David Zwirner, was also present with a dynamic array of artists, including Marlene Dumas, Gerhard Richter, Elizabeth Peyton, Lucas Arruda, Dana Schutz, and Lisa Yuskavage, among others. Their works ranged from painting to mixed media, showcasing an eclectic mix of styles and themes.

Lia Rumma emphasized the Arte Povera movement with a thoughtful presentation featuring works by Enrico Castellani, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and other key figures from the movement.
